Thing 4 - Photo Editing - Photo Enhancement Assignment

Screenshots and Skitch
I like the idea of taking a screenshot to duplicate a picture already in your camera roll.  Then, you still have your original to go back to if something happens while you are editing and modifying.  Taking a screenshot of a digital storybook page would be useful to show students punctuation usage for writing or sentence diagrams like looking for nouns or verbs, etc.
In the fall our class does a unit on the life cycle of a plant.  Students could do a google search for a photo of a plant and take a screenshot of this picture.  Then, using Skitch, they could edit the photo and add labels and arrows to name the parts of the plants.  When photo is completed, they could screenshot it again to demonstrate their knowledge of plant parts.

My immediate response to Skitch was, "Oh, that's how they make those funny pictures with captions on Facebook!"  It was fun to use and rather simple to understand.  I began to think about students making books. They draw this great picture and then add their words to it for a story retell; let's bump it up to a digital design, take a screenshot and now add the words with captions, arrows and other designs available in Skitch.  Each students screenshots could be added to a presentation for a class-made book.
